Dragonflies were some of the first winged insects to evolve, some 300 million years ago.
Fossil dragonflies have been found with wingspans of up to two feet.
There are more than 5,000 known species of dragonflies.
Dragonflies are expert fliers. They can fly straight up and down, hover like a helicopter and mate in thin air.
Some adult dragonflies only live a few weeks, while others live up to a year.
Dragonfly and mosquito season is nearing. Dragonflies love eating mosquitos. So, setup a small pond for the dragonflies to hangout around.
Buy some flowers like Black-eyed Susans, Rudbeckia hirta and swamp milkweed for your yard; Shrubs called, Seedbox and Buttonbush to plant around the pond and waterplants such as eelgrass, fanwort, baby pondweed and sago pondweed. You can also add floating plants, such as hardy and tropical water lilies and lotus flowers.
